What to watch on streaming: today’s picks from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more

Over on Prime Video, supernatural thriller The Rig returns for a new season, delving deeper into the mystery surrounding the grisly fates met by several members of the Kinloch Bravo. The second chapter picks up as our surviving characters – led by Fulmer Hamilton (Martin Compston) and Magnus MacMillan (Iain Glen) – head out to an Arctic glacier in search of answers.

In poignant real-life drama Lockerbie: a Search for Truth on NOW, after his daughter is killed in the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 Dr Jim Swire (Colin Firth) embarks on a dogged pursuit of the truth to uncover whether the tragedy could have been prevented.

If films are more your thing, there are some recent new releases to choose from. Small Things like These, based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Claire Keegan, stars Cillian Murphy as Bill Furlong, a man who runs a small coal business in County Wicklow in the 1980s. He begins to reflect on his childhood after uncovering a disturbing secret at a time when the notorious Magdalene Laundries were in operation – leading him down a difficult and conflicting path.

You could also try Joker: Folie à Deux, the much-anticipated follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 DC film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; monster movie mash-up Godzilla x Kong: the New Empire; and true story The Six Triple Eight, which celebrates the only predominantly Black Women’s Army Corps unit to be stationed overseas during the Second World War.

Meanwhile, for something that will keep the whole family entertained, there’s fun sequel Kung Fu Panda 4 animated musical fantasy to enjoy, plus Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet and swashbuckling Puss in Boots: the Last Wish.
